The vandalism to one of the payment meters at the Reserve, in the past week, has led to a situation where considerate visitors to the Reserve had left the bottom car park to find another payment meter. Unfortunately, this led to several members of the public receiving “non-payment ” messages. To avoid this situation, and only until the payment meter is replaced/ repaired (at the cost of approximately £1000) the Reserve took the difficult decision to close the bottom car park.

The funds received from parking charges will constitute the main source of funding for the Reserve going forward, the decision to begin charging was not taken lightly and would not have been undertaken if there were sufficient, alternate, means of funding available.

We can only thank the many visitors to the Reserve who visit daily in their hundreds, who support us by paying for parking, either as a day visitor or by use of the “Friends of Kenfig” scheme. Your generosity will become the mainstay of our efforts to Preserve, Improve, Promote and Protect the dune system with its diverse range of flora and fauna.
